You don't need to teach your client every detail of the Goal Performance System.
You need to use it to make performance conversations clearer.
Here are a few ways to explain GPS throughout the client relationship.
At the Beginning of a Campaign
Instead of:
"We'll launch the campaign and see how it performs."
Try:
"Before we launch, we're establishing a measurable performance goal so we're aligned on what success should look like and what actions we'll use to measure progress."
This creates the expectation that campaign performance will be measured against something tangible, not judged retroactively.
When Explaining KPAs
You don't necessarily need to introduce another acronym without context.
Try:
"We know the ultimate goal. These are the key actions we're tracking along the way to understand whether the campaign is moving us toward it."
Then explain the specific actions that matter for that client: calls, forms, purchases, appointments, or something else.
When Performance Is Behind Goal
This is where GPS becomes particularly useful.
Instead of immediately defending CPC, CTR, impressions, or another platform metric, bring the conversation back to the outcome.
Try:
"We're currently pacing behind the performance goal, so we're looking at where the gap is occurring. We're evaluating the media performance, conversion experience, lead quality, and downstream activity so we can identify the strongest next action."
A missed target should create a strategy conversation, not a reporting panic.
When Performance Is Meeting Goal
Meeting the goal doesn't mean the work stops.
Try:
"We're consistently producing the outcome we established at the beginning of the campaign. Now we're evaluating whether there's an opportunity to scale while maintaining acceptable efficiency."
That creates a much stronger budget conversation than simply telling a client that impressions are up.
When the Ads Look Good but the Business Result Doesn't
This is an important distinction.
Try:
"The media is generating the expected activity, but we're seeing a gap further down the customer journey. We're looking beyond the advertising platform to understand what happens after users click or call."
This gives you room to discuss landing-page behavior, call quality, sales follow-up, CRM data, or other downstream factors without pretending every business issue can be solved inside Ads Manager.
When a Client Asks, "So, Is This Working?"
Come back to the shared scoreboard:
"Here's the goal we established, here's where we're pacing against it, here are the actions driving that performance, and here's what we're doing next."
That's GPS in one client conversation.
The system is ultimately designed to give the agency, client, and Conduit the same understanding of what success looks like and how performance is progressing toward it.
The better the scoreboard, the better the conversation.
